Anxiety and Sweaty Hands

Having sweaty hands and anxiety at the same time is a common pattern in our times. Although sometimes anxiety isn?t the main cause for excessive sweating, it is one of the most powerful triggers.

Anxiety is a state of mind where we feel a lot of emotions: worry, a sense of emptiness, fear, and can cause physical sensations: increased breathing, nausea, and excessive sweating, are some of them. Anxiety is closely related to our survival, and by itself is not bad, but the thing is we now live in a world different form thousands of years ago, and still we have this same emotion that once helped us deal with the wild world.

Once we are in the state of anxiety, then we lose some control over ourselves, suddenly we find out our hands are sweating excessively, but we can?t help it, because anxiety is slowly taking over us.

Since this is a problem that originates in the mind, is best to treat it from such angle. Two of the best methods are hypnosis and meditation. They are good because they help the mind to relax. Just what we need when anxiety comes knocking to our door. Hypnosis is a safe method, actually is safer than we have made to believe it is. You can?t do anything you don?t want to for example, neither you will be in the altered state forever. Professional psychotherapists have learned the art of hypnosis as an important part of treatments that include suggesting new beliefs.

Meditation, in the other hand leans toward self awareness. What you do when you meditate is close your eyes and focus on just one thing at the beginning, it can be counting, or your breathing. As you keep practicing it you will feel that you are in control of yourself, and no the other way.

A sweaty hands surgery in the case of anxiety, is not much recommendable, unless it appears as a severe condition. In that case it is better to go to the doctor to know the best treatment for your case.

How to Stop Sweating Problems

Sweating problems occur when the body produces perspiration, even when it is not in danger of overheating. Sometimes the body mistakenly produces sweat in response to nervousness or embarrassment, other times sweat is produced for no obvious cause. Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis usually shows up in childhood but becomes most problematic during the young adult years as your body starts to go through puberty. Girls are affected three times more frequently than boys.

Sweating problems are both a personal and a professional liability. Many people who sweat excessively become anxious about going out in public and may sharply restrict their social contacts. Some people are embarrassed to date, or even to shake hands with a new acquaintance. Due to the smell of perspiration and the unsightliness of soaked clothing, employers may be reluctant to hire people who perspire heavily to work with the public. Some people whose hands sweat a lot complain of being unable to work because they can't handle paper

If you sweat excessively then you`re probably desperate to stop sweating. Many will go to any lengths, such as trying multiple antiperspirants and deodorants or paying hundreds of dollars for ineffective herbal remedies. Some people try antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications with varying degrees relief.

Others make changes in their diets or wash the affected area many times every day. Here is a couple of tips that can help:

  • Avoiding strongly scented or spicy foods can reduce the odor of perspiration. It should be noted that while changes in diet and hygiene will not stop excessive sweating, they may in fact decrease the odor associated with it.
  • Shaving your armpits religiously may stop the smell. Bacteria grow rampant in the hair under the arms and it is the bacteria feeding off the perspiration, not the perspiration itself, which causes odor.

Other people wanting to stop excessive sweating spend a lot of money going to doctors and trying radical treatments such as mild electric shocks (iontophoresis), botox injections, or even surgery to remove the sweat glands or to sever the line of communication between the nerves and the sweat glands. These treatments often work, but the cost is often prohibitive and the side effects can be unpleasant. There is how-ever another, more affordable option to stop excessive sweating. The treatment works by using 20% aluminium chloride soulutions to enter the sweat glands and causing them to swell, thus blocking perspiration from reaching the top layer of the skin. Over time, the sweat glands may actually shrink, which means less perspiration permanently. So don't let sweating problems continue to be an embarrassing issue in your life. It is actually possible to do something about it.

After struggling with excessive sweating for years Bill Platt wrote the manual "A 8 Step Manual to Stop Sweating When Regular Deodorants and Antiperspirants Don't Do the Trick." It lets you know how he stopped his own sweating problems and how you can too. Check it out www.NeverSweatAgain.com

Facts About Excessive Sweating Syndrome

Sweaty palms disorder or the palmer hyperhidrosis is the most commonly diagnosed forms of the excessive sweating syndrome hyperhidrosis. This condition represents itself by occurring as a condition when a person?s hands and soles of the feet sweat boundlessly. This produces wet and cold hands of the patients who suffer from hyperhidrosis. That is the bad news, the good is that there is more than one cure for sweaty palms.

Certain emotional and psychological conditions are known to trigger excessive sweating syndrome. These emotional or psychological states include anxiety, nervousness or even anger. Although psychological distress is a widely acceptable cause of sweating, this sweaty palms effect mostly occurs in absence of outside stimulation. That is why its causes are thought to be rooted in the sympathetic nervous system.

In some patients excessive sweating syndrome occurs in combinations. The most commonly diagnosed blend of two different forms of hyperhidrosis is sweaty palms and feet soles together. This combination may also occur as the sweaty hands with excessive sweating in the under arms region. Such disorders are very common in teens at the time of puberty and may carry on for the whole life if not dealt with on time.

The amount of sweat that is excreted by the body is mainly dependent on the outside temperature and the exertion done by the body. More the exertion done, more is the sweat produced, so as to regulate the body temperature and to keep the body cool. . The chemical, which gives out odor to sweat, is 2 methyl phenol and 4 methyl phenol. The presence of these chemicals in the sweat is mainly responsible for the odor of the sweat. Sweat is excreted in humans through the sweat glands present in the body.

The armpits generally comprise of the appocrine glands, which are the sweat glands. These glands in addition to the watery sweat also excrete the fatty materials. This is why the under arm area is generally more sweat producing and gives out the odor, when it sweats.

The sweat pores are present throughout the body and are responsible for the excretion of the sweat from the body, thus regulating the body temperature. Sweat pores are also present in the palms. The sweaty palm excessive sweating is termed as palmer hyper hydrosis and may result in excessive sweat excretion through the palms. The problem of sweaty palm is genetic in most cases, which generally starts at early age and gradually increases with the age. The problem of sweaty palm may affect the social life of a person. The sympathetic chain controls the sweating mechanism, which is located in the chest cavity of the human body, and excessive sweating is the result of the hyper activity of the sympathetic chain, which is a part of the nervous system.

The problem of excessive sweating syndrome may get severe and a patient facing this problem may be categorized in one of the four categories, which are classified and distinguished on the basis of the severity of the problem.

This excessive sweating syndrome may affect the social life of a person and hence doctors have deduced a cure for it, which is known as the Thoracic Sympathectomy. The process involves surgical treatment, through the chest cavity, and the patient may be required to stay in the hospital for over 60 days. The recent development in this field has put to use the miniature cameras to remove the problems associated with it, and the patient is hospitalized for not more than 20 days.

The recent improvements in technologies have lead to safer surgical treatments that can be used as a cure for sweaty palms. These days the surgery is performed using endoscopy, wherein an optical fiber is put to use for the operation.

Thus the cure for sweaty palms and other excessive sweating syndromes has been well researched, and has been made possible by a surgical operation known as the thoracic sympathectomy, which is concerned with an endoscopic surgery of the chest cavity.

Sweat Palms - A Brief Overview

Having sweaty palms is very common. Specially in today's world where sometimes anxiety overcomes us at certain points, and we start sweating for no reason. Just think about any job interview you had in your life. If you can't remember any occasion, consider yourself lucky, because having sweaty palms can be a lot troubling, and embarrassing.

"Sweaty palms" is also known as palmar hyperhidrosis, a medical condition characterized by excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis can occur also at armpits or feet, and it is not a temporary condition. People with excessive sweating have had it for years, and it only becomes worse as they get older and need to interact with other people. Many people become so embarrassed just to go to a social event because they have to shake hands, and if they do go they can't do it confidently.

So what causes sweaty palms? It is not known for sure today but doctors believe that it is linked to an over activity of the sympathetic nervous system, that controls automatic processes. Other conditions linked to sweaty palms are hyperthyroidism, menopause, obesity, and psychiatric disorders.

Sweaty palms treatment can vary depending of the degree of the condition. Severe cases are best treated by surgery. This surgery is called Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy, and in this surgical procedure, portions of the sympathetic nerve trunk are cut, or removed. Other treatments are: oral medication (Ditropan, Robinul), botulinum toxic (Botox), Aluminum chloride solutions, iontophoresis, hypnosis, meditation, and biofeedback. These other treatments are aimed to people with a low grade of sweating, for example people with sweaty palms treated by anxiety. In this case, the less intrusive methods such as hypnosis, meditation and biofeedback are by far the recommended alternatives.

If you suffer from sweaty palms, go visit your doctor. A certified physician can help you decide which way to follow to solve your problem, you don't have to live forever with embarrassment, thanks to today's techniques.

Do Sweat It: Owning a Sauna Could Help Your Health

You may consider a home sauna to be a luxury, an item that offers pleasure and comfort but is ultimately inessential to your well-being. The results of years of research, however, may just convince you of what sauna enthusiasts have believed for centuries - that sauna use offers tremendous health benefits that simply cannot be denied.

A main objective of any sauna bath is to make you sweat, and sweating is a natural, necessary function of the human body. It's one way the body can rid itself of extra heat and water and eliminate harmful toxins that have built up inside it over time. As Dr. Sherry A. Rogers writes in her book, Detoxify or Die, "The bottom line is that sweat is the only proven method for getting the most dangerous toxins out of the body." In their studies of far infrared saunas, Japanese researchers have concluded that perspiration induced by infrared sauna use contains as much as 300% more toxins than sweat expelled during exercise. Included among these toxins are aluminum, cadmium, lead and mercury.

The health benefits of sauna bathing go beyond assisting detoxification, however. As your body increases sweat production to cool itself during a hot sauna bath, your heart increases blood circulation. Heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate increase, while diastolic blood pressure drops, helping to improve overall cardiovascular fitness.

Sauna use may also contribute to healthy weight loss. A letter published in a 1981 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association claimed that "a moderately conditioned person can easily 'sweat off' 500 grams in a sauna, consuming nearly 300 calories - the equivalent of running two to three miles. A heat-conditioned person can easily sweat off 600 to 800 calories with no adverse effects. While the weight of the water lost can be regained by rehydration with water, the calories consumed will not be."

Most indisputable are the claims that regular sauna use helps relieves stress and promotes relaxation. It has been repeatedly demonstrated that spending just a few minutes in a hot sauna bath reduces anxiety levels, soothes nerves and warms tight muscles. Not only has sauna use been shown to encourage deeper, most restful sleep, infrared sauna therapy has been effective for relieving pain associated with arthritis, backache, bursitis, fibromyalgia, headache, sprains, strains and other muscular-skeletal ailments.

"I am convinced that the far infrared sauna is something that everyone should do to restore health," writes Dr. Rogers. In a society struggling with toxic build-up, heart disease, stress and anxiety disorders, and weight problems, it seems the home sauna has indeed become much less of a luxury and much more of a necessity for healthy living.
