Excessive Underarm Sweating — What is the Easiest and Safest Cure?

Nobody wants to talk about excessive sweating or sweaty underarms, although it's a common problem for a lot of people. It's a visual embarrassment and also a smelly concern! Sweating is one of the ways we regulate our body temperature, and sweating also keeps our skin moist. If you suffer from excessive sweating, it's not because you have too many sweat glands, it's because of the nerve cell activity of those glands. There are two types of sweat glands, apoccrine and eccrine glands.

Not surprisingly, at least 1% of the population suffers from excessive sweating, especially excessive underarm sweating. Everybody sweats more when they are hot or nervous, but excessive sweating may be partly due to our genes. It's important to control excessive sweating, and there are many different opinions and views on how to achieve this. If you suffer from excessive sweating, you've probably already tried the commercial antiperspirants and deodorants, and you're still looking for a cure for your problem.

Diet control alone will not cure excessive sweating, but can help reduce it somewhat. Certain foods, such as onions, fish, garlic, and spicy foods like curry, can be smelled in the sweat. Try to reduce your intake of these types of foods. Underarm hair holds sweat and can make the problem worse. If possible, shave your armpits to reduce the bacteria build-up.

There are other expensive and more painful cures available, such as Botox injections given in very small doses into the skin which can stop excessive sweating for 2-8 months. However, Botox is a poison, and it's natural to have concerns about the long term effects of such treatment. As a last resort, surgery is often considered, where the sympathetic nerves that control sweating are cut. This type of operation requires general anesthesia, and is not guaranteed to work. The success rate is approximately 30%. Underarm skin can be removed and can be quite effective, but this is not a common operation due to the scarring and is not encouraged or performed very often.

Natural ways to cure excessive sweating are by far the easiest and cheapest way to control the problem. It's definitely safer to try diet control and natural remedies first.

How To Reduce Perspiration | Stop Excessive Sweating

It is a known fact that overweight and obese people are more prone to excessive sweating as they perspire more. However, excessive perspiration can be also due to several underlying medical conditions such as menopause, psychiatric illnesses and very active thyroid glands. Excessive sweating is also known to occur to people with no known medical condition and thus the cause of heavy sweating for this group of people is unknown.

It is very distressing to suffer from over sweating and many people with this condition also suffer from low self esteem. This is because excessive sweating may cause them to have undesirable body odor, looking unkempt and dirty.  It is easier for those who are overweight to reduce excessive perspiration since it is just a matter of reducing their body fat weight. Losing weight is easy with the right combination of exercises and healthy eating habits. Many people who find it hard to lose weight and disagree with me that losing weight is easy is because they are doing it wrongly.

If excessive sweating is localized on parts of the body such as armpits, palms or the soles of feet, then treatments may be necessary to reduce over perspiration. Sometimes anti-perspirants applied to the affected body part may just stop excessive sweating albeit temporarily. Simple and non surgical medical treatments that are known to reduce or even sometimes stop excessive sweating successfully are Iontophoresis where a low electrical current is introduced to the affected parts of the body or getting Botulinum toxin injections commonly known as Botox injections.

If you are suffering from excessive sweating and over perspiration, and since this condition is most prevalent among people who are overweight, go get a medical check up to see if you are obese. If you are, then embark on a healthy diet and exercise program and your excessive sweating condition may be solved permanently.

Excess Sweating Of The Head And Hair

Sweating is a normal and healthy thing. It is normal to sweat especially if you are experiencing warm weather, have been exercising, are experiencing emotional stress or anxiety. All the above reasons justify your sweating up to a certain limit. Scientists say that we might lose quite a lot of fluid when one tiny sweat gland tries to cool our body up to one degree Fahrenheit by cooling one liter blood.

For most of the people sweating is nothing but a minor irritant because of the stains it leaves on the dress and the odor. However, for some sweating might not be such a minor issue. This applies to people who face the problem of excessive sweating especially on body parts like the pals, armpits and the excessive sweating of the head and hair.

People with the problem of excessive sweating face embarrassment in their daily functioning of life. Those with excessive sweating in their armpits and excessive sweating of the head and hair, also those who have the problem of excessive sweating of palms cannot move around as normal people can.

However, sweating is a complex phenomenon, therefore, any imbalance within the body of hormones or health will cause excessive sweating. There are four main reasons identified as the reasons for excessive sweating. Those being :-
Obesity;
A serious health problem
Menopause;
Coming of age (puberty) or hormonal imbalance.

Obesity is nowadays becoming one of the major factors, causing people to sweat excessively. The metabolic activity of obese people causes them to sweat profusely.

If you are a normal person and have started excessive sweating off late, it would be better not to ignore it. Immediate physical check-up should be done so that you can treat the problem in time.

Menopause is yet another instance where you could start sweating excessively. The hormonal imbalance causes it therefore it is periodic and not a permanent phenomenon.

Puberty also can cause incessant sweating in the case of children coming of age. This happens at the age of about 13-14 when the hormones are playing a major role in the development.

What are the emotional effects of excessive sweating on a person? Excessive sweating causes embarrassment to people suffering from it. A person who has excessive sweating on palms might feel it awkward and embarrassing to shake hands with people because his palms are always wet.

A person who has excessive sweating in the armpits will find it embarrassing when the sweat leaves stains on his dress and even while going near someone because of the odor.

A person who has excessive sweating of the head and hair has to face the most embarrassment. Since the person suffering from excessive sweating of the head and hair will have sweat dripping all over his head and hair. This will make his hair constantly wet and oily. This person suffering from excessive sweating of the head and hair will find more dirt and grime in his hair than ever before. This will lead to unnatural hair loss which will complicate the situation even more.

Excessive sweating of the head and hair will also make a person?s life miserable. He will have to deal with sweat dripping on both the sides of his face making him look unkempt all the time. Plus the skin where the sweat accumulates will also be affected negatively.

Another problem with people suffering from excessive sweating is constant feeling of exhaustion. This happens because the fluids inside the body of this person will get exhausted all the time.

So in order to treat the problem of excessive sweating people have to consult doctors or dermatologists depending on the diagnosis and the reason why they sweat so profusely.

Excessive Sweating And Facial Oiliness

Everyone seeks to have beautiful facial skin and excessive sweating and facial oiliness can get in the way. But not everyone has this, special care has to be taken to keep facial skin healthy and beautiful. One of the biggest problems that many encounter is facial oiliness. Nature has given skin a natural ability to replenish itself. Skin has sebaceous glands, which release oil periodically. This oil lubricates the skin and prevents the skin from drying. This oil also reduces down the occurrence of wrinkles. But in some people oil is produced so excessively that it results in acne. There are several factors that contribute to the excessive production of oil. Excessive oiliness could be hereditary, may be caused because of pregnancy and also due to excessive perspiration.

Excessive sweating and facial oiliness is one of the disorders that are hard to deal with. Until now it was not understood why perspiration in excess came from. But finally it is understood that the primary cause for excessive perspiration is genetic disorder. Excessive perspiration is also caused due to obesity, menopause, hyperthyroidism and psychiatric disorders. Depending on the cause of excessive perspiration, it is classified in to two categories Primary Hyperhidrosis and Secondary Hyperhidrosis. Primary Hyperhidrosis is the case where in excessive perspiration of hands and sole of foot takes place, but the cause of it is unknown. Secondary Hyperhidrosis is the case where in excessive perspiration takes place because of some health disorder. Some of these disorders include AIDS, Cancer, certain medications. In this case excessive sweating and facial oiliness may occur.

Usually excessive perspiration takes place in hands and the soles of the foot, because of higher concentration of apocrine and eccrine glands. Under rare circumstances facial skin and armpit regions are also affected. Excessive perspiration on facial skin makes victims feel embarrassed. In this case sweating takes place on the face and scalp. Sweat runs through the face like water continuously. Usually this is considered as a genetic disorder. People with excessive sweating cannot apply make up nor do they prefer to go out doors. Excessive perspiration on facial skin makes it appear oilier. Usually oiliness on the skin is good to some extent but in excess it is harmful. Excessive perspiration of facial skin further deteriorates the situation. It increases the acne on the skin there by resulting unhealthy and awkward looking skin. This problem also develops inferiority complex among the victims. So, they become more and more introvert and after a while it may also result in some psychological disorder.

There are some solutions to overcome these problems, but nothing is perfect. For the prevention of excessive sweating two methods are available, one is surgical and the other is non surgical methods. One of the surgical treatments is sympathectomy. In this method pair of sympathetic nerves that are responsible for production of sweating are cut down at specific positions. Depending on the position where the nerve has been cut down perspiration in a region can be controlled. But the complication associated with it is sweating in excess takes place. For example if sweating on facial skin is controlled by this method then excessive sweating may take place under the breast or on the back.

There are some non surgical treatments available for controlling excessive facial perspiration. They include anti perspirants containing aluminum chloride, oral medications. For control of excessive facial sweating oral medications are usually preferred. Several facial gels are also available in the market. This gel has to be applied on the face as a thin coat. This gel is primarily composed of anti perspirant. One other way to get relieved from excessive oiliness caused by excessive perspiration is by washing face regularly.

If you suffer from excessive sweating and facial oiliness then it is high time you went to the doctor to find out what is best for you.
